Sometimes, the underdog bites the big dog.

Sixty years ago this month, everyone expected the football team of the former Palm Beach High (now Dreyfoos School of the Arts) to lose its season opener at home against a Miami team so powerful it had to go out of state to find suitable rivals.

In September of 1955, only four teams had ever beaten Miami Senior High, which hadn’t lost a game in years. They showed up in West Palm Beach convinced of an easy win over the Palm Beach Wildcats.

What happened that night that created a special bond among the class of 1955/56 that endures today.

Read about the game in “Palm Beach High’s Moment of Glory.”
