Snowbirds.
Love them? Or can’t wait until you see their tail lights in April?
For locals, it’s usually a mixture of both. It’s hard to live with an invading force that adds 20 to 75 percent to our local populations for the winter months, then toss millions of tourists on top of that.
However, we locals also know which side of our bagel gets the cream cheese.
Here’s a few reasons we love snowbirds (and sometimes don’t.)
1. The money they spend supports our businesses. (But they can be grumpy and rude.)
2. The taxes they pay help support our schools and roads. (But they create traffic, drive too slowly and don’t know how to park.)
3. They fill our best restaurants (which we can’t get into five months of the year.)
4. They support our cultural life (but take up all the beach parking.)
5. Those accents. (Those accents!)
